The China Hydrogen Industry Standardization Blue Book (2026) has been released, marking another step forward in the development of China’s hydrogen industry. The sector is steadily transitioning from policy-driven pilot demonstrations toward large-scale deployment, with standardization playing an increasingly strategic role.
China has established a domestic hydrogen standards framework covering the entire value chain, from production and storage to transportation and end use. Policy pilots and standards development are reinforcing each other, translating practical experience from demonstration projects into unified technical requirements and helping reduce the risks and costs associated with large-scale deployment.
Major projects have continued to achieve breakthroughs. Jupiter One, a 30 MW-class pure-hydrogen gas turbine, has achieved stable power generation. A million-cubic-metre-scale underground salt cavern hydrogen storage project in Pingdingshan, Henan Province, has entered operation. Meanwhile, integrated technologies and supporting standards for hydrogen pipeline transportation have been released, helping address key technical gaps in long-distance hydrogen transmission.
Companies are also accelerating their efforts to develop core hydrogen technologies and equipment. Houpu Clean Energy Group Co., Ltd. is developing integrated solutions across the hydrogen value chain, with its hydrogen production equipment reaching European markets. Shanxi Meijin Energy Co., Ltd. is leveraging its access to by-product hydrogen to advance green hydrogen projects and has built more than 20 hydrogen refuelling stations.
Together, these developments highlight China’s continued efforts to strengthen hydrogen industry standards, advance key technologies and equipment, and accelerate the transition from pilot demonstrations to large-scale industrial deployment.
