Huadian Joins Hands with Connell to Advance Songyuan 900,000-tonne Green Methanol Project

Songyuan Huadian-Connell Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was officially registered in Songyuan City on October 9.

Huadian New Energy Group Co., Ltd. holds a 60 % equity stake, while Jilin Connell Investment Group Co., Ltd. owns the remaining 40 %. According to Hydrogen Insight China, Huadian Group and Connell are cooperating to develop the 900 000-tonne-per-annum green methanol project in Songyuan. The total project investment reaches RMB 220 billion, including RMB 140 billion for the new-energy segment and RMB 80 billion for the chemical-production segment.

Connell Group is a manufacturing conglomerate with businesses covering chemical production, chemical equipment manufacturing, traditional Chinese medicine and chemical API plants, pharmaceutical logistics, as well as Changbai Mountain mineral water production. The group employs 4 300 staff, with total assets and annual sales each exceeding RMB 10 billion. It has made cumulative social donations totalling RMB 210 million.

In April 2026, Honeywell and Jilin Connell New Energy Co., Ltd. sealed a cooperation deal in Jilin City to push forward a 300 000-tonne-per-annum sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project. Adopting Honeywell UOP eFining™ process technology, the completed facility is expected to rank among the world’s largest single-train methanol-to-jet (MTJ) production units, delivering key support for emission reduction and decarbonisation within the aviation sector. The 300 000-tonne SAF project requires 900 000 tonnes of green methanol as feedstock. The green methanol project jointly developed by Huadian Group and Connell will supply green methanol for Connell’s Jilin-based SAF facility.
